From Mozy's Brrr(ain)child:
Why Mozy Works So Well On Windy Days
If you've ever sat through a cold, windy game or tried to enjoy a blustery day outdoors, you know how quickly the wind can turn a pleasant experience into a shivering ordeal. That's exactly the problem I set out to solve when I designed Mozy. Today, I want to take you behind the scenes and share how every detail of Mozy is crafted to keep you warm, specifically in the wind!

Understanding Wind and Why It Makes Us Cold
Wind is sneaky. It doesn't just make the air feel colder; it actually strips away the layer of warm air your body creates around your skin. This process is called convective heat loss - when moving air carries away your body's warmth. When you're sitting outside, especially on metal bleachers or the ground, the wind can make you lose heat even faster.
Most blankets aren't designed to block wind, right? They flap, slip, and leave gaps where cold air can sneak in. That's why, no matter how thick your blanket is, you still feel the chill when the wind picks up.
The Engineering Challenge: Keeping Wind Out and Warmth In
When I started designing Mozy, my goal was simple: keep the wind out and the warmth in. I knew I needed a wrap that would stay in place, block the wind, and be comfortable to wear for hours. I went through dozens of prototypes, testing different materials and closure systems. I wanted something that would be easy to use, durable, and effective at keeping you warm in windy conditions.
The Windproof Outer Shell
The first key to Mozy's design is the windproof outer shell. I chose a heavy-duty, tightly-woven nylon - the same kind used in rugged backpacks and outdoor gear. This fabric is treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) coating, making it both windproof and water-resistant. Mozy's outer shell acts as a barrier, keeping the elements out and your warmth in no matter what kind of weather you're up against.

The Snug, Adjustable Fit
One of the biggest problems with traditional blankets is that they don't stay put. They flap in the wind, slide off your lap, and leave gaps where cold air can get in. With Mozy, I designed elastic bands and adjustable closures that hug your body securely. You can fasten Mozy around your waist, seal it halfway down your legs, or all the way to your feet. This snug fit prevents drafts and keeps the wrap in place, whether you're sitting, standing, or walking. The more you close it, the warmer you get.
The Cozy, Insulating Inner Layer
Inside, Mozy is lined with soft, plush fleece. This isn't just for comfort - it's also a key part of the insulation system. Fleece traps a layer of still air between the fabric and your skin, which is one of the best ways to prevent heat loss. By keeping this air from moving, Mozy stops wind from pulling heat away from your body. This is a principle straight out of thermodynamics: still air is a fantastic insulator.
How Mozy's Heat Retention System Works
I call this approach Sustained Heat Retention™. By sealing Mozy around your lower body, we minimize convective heat loss in two ways:
External Protection: The heavy-duty outer shell blocks wind and weather from reaching you.
Internal Heat Trapping: The combination of elastic bands, plush fleece lining, and adjustable closure system prevents air movement between Mozy and your skin. This stops the warm air layer your body creates from being disturbed by drafts or air circulation.
Your core stays warm, and by adjusting the closure, your temperature remains stable even when the wind is howling. I tested Mozy against regular blankets in controlled conditions, and the results were clear: Mozy keeps you more than 5 times warmer than a standard blanket in windy conditions.

Mobility and Practicality
Windy environments often require movement - standing up to cheer, walking to your car, or chasing after kids. I wanted Mozy to be just as useful when you're on the move as when you're sitting still. That's why I designed Mozy to stay in place whether you're sitting, standing, or walking. The wrap is flexible and lightweight, so you can move freely without losing warmth or coverage.

After years of engineering, testing, and real-world use, I can confidently say that Mozy is the best solution for staying warm in the wind. If you're tired of shivering through outdoor events, give Mozy a try. I built it originally for my mother so she could watch her grandchildren play sports in comfort. But I'm proud to share it with anyone who refuses to let the weather dictate their adventures.
